The
biggest complaints about many training programmes are usually
nothing to do with the training, and all about the environment
or hospitality. A huge amount of effort is spent on organising
hospitality for training, effort that could often be better
spent on delivering more or better training So, forget the
biscuits and
Use
the phone to train or coach
The
telephone is a powerful learning tool. All the evidence we
have shows that people listen well on the phone (there is
not much else for them to do) PROVIDING you have set the context
properly.
At 3C,
we do a lot of training by phone using our Phone Delivered
Training™ method. It has the following benefits:
- People learn and practise in the medium
in which they work
- Call centre workers, virtual teams, and
sales people from all over the world can join in – saving
a fortune on travel expenses
- Delegates learn how to manage relationships,
build confidence and communicate effectively using this
medium, adding real value
- Those with little spare time for time management
training can save time by being trained by phone!
Using
the phone is a powerful way to learn
At the
risk of sounding like a BT advert, there is no doubt from
our experience that people learn faster and apply a greater
proportion of their learning when they learn via the phone
(see our time management case study). The phone seems to create
a direct link from the learning to the individual, without
all the distractions of a classroom.
Using
the phone saves time
Not
only is there no travel time, the actual learning happens
faster and the delegates can apply what they have learnt as
soon as the training has finished.
It's
not a typical conference call
Many
international companies inflict long conference calls on their
unfortunate staff. If your experience of conference calls
is several hours of someone else's powerpoint while you text
your friends - prepare to be amazed. Phone Delivered Training™
is highly interactive, engaging and full of participation,
with a maximum of 10 delegates and a trainer, all contributing
and sharing ideas, practising new approaches and giving each
other feedback.
Typical
feedback
“I can't
believe how much we learnt in such a short time ”
“It
was really enjoyable and the time just seemed to fly by”
And
managers say things like:
“ Amazing,
the delegates finish the training call and start applying
their new approaches on the next call!”
Now,
I have to admit we did once get a delegate who said she really
missed not having nice biscuits during the training – you
just can't please everyone !
